Zinc is one of the three most important metals after aluminum and copper among non-ferrous metals in terms of usage. These three metals are mainly used to increase the corrosion resistance of iron and steel, and to make special alloys and brass alloys used in the casting industry.

Almost 50% of the total zinc consumption is used in galvanized steel production, 20% in brass production, 15% in casting, 8% in zinc oxide production and 7% in semi-fabricated products. Due to its ecotoxic effect, zinc is consumed limitedly in some areas (especially in the building and construction sector).

Today, as a zinc replacement material; It is used in aluminum, magnesium and plastics, roofing materials, rubber and cosmetics industry and especially in the automotive industry. Although there are more than 600 lead-zinc-copper mineralizations in Turkey, the mineral deposits found are medium or small reserve deposits compared to other deposits in the world. Lead-silver mining in Turkey is one of the oldest in the world, and many regions are named with words containing silver and lead.

Zinc mine in Turkey, Yahyalı, Kozan, Alanya, Hadımı, Yeşilyurt in the Central Taurus, Adapazarı and Gümüşhacıköy in North Anatolia, Rize-Çayeli in the Eastern Black Sea Region, in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea Region, near Gümüşhane, Şebinkarahisar and Koyulhisar, in the Southeast. It is located near Siirt-Madenköy, Hakkari in Eastern Anatolia, Balıkesir-Baly and Çanakkale-Koru in Northwest Anatolia, Akdağmadeni, Keban and Keskin in the Central Anatolian Region.

Since sulfide ores produced in Turkey do not have smelting facilities in the country, they are sold abroad as enriched zinc-lead ores or concentrates, either temporarily or directly by export. In addition, zinc is exported as a raw, extracted concentrate and calcined product. Zinc consumption in the world is around 16 million tons every year. 12 million tons of this figure is obtained from new ore production, 1 million tons from scrap recycling smelting, and 3 million tons from non-smelting recycling.

As it is known, zinc ore, which is obtained from nature and cannot be produced by human hands, has been processed abroad and turned into ingots in order to be used in the industry of our country, and again offered to our industry. Therefore, this ore, which is not considered as a commodity and its existence was created under special conditions, needs to be evaluated from a different and different point of view than any other commodity production due to its nature.
